Amid Strikes, Network Unveils Revised Fall Schedule

CBS has welcomed Yellowstone into its programming lineup!

The popular Kevin Costner-led western drama, previously exclusive to the Paramount Network cable channel and NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service, will now make its broadcast TV debut on CBS this fall. The show’s CBS debut will begin with season 1, although the network has not yet announced the exact premiere date.

Due to the Writers Guild of America strike and SAG-AFTRA joining the strike, CBS had to rework its fall schedule, incorporating more unscripted shows. SEAL Team, previously shifted to Paramount+, will return for its fifth season on Thursdays at 10 p.m. Ghosts and episodes of the original U.K. series it is based on will air back-to-back before SEAL Team.

The Amazing Race and Survivor will run on Wednesdays in 90-minute blocks, with Big Brother and The Challenge USA also extending into the fall. Additionally, CBS will air a new, yet-to-be-revealed Paramount+ original series on Mondays at 10 p.m.

To complement their unscripted programming on Fridays, CBS will introduce two new shows: Buddy Games, hosted by Josh Duhamel, will air Thursdays at 9 p.m., following Big Brother, while Lotería Loca, hosted by Jaime Camil, will kick off Monday nights at 8 p.m.

As for Yellowstone, the second half of its fifth season, initially projected to return in the summer of 2023, has faced delays with production and Costner’s departure as the lead. Nevertheless, the show continues to draw record numbers, with 12 million viewers tuning in for the season 5 premiere in November 2022.

Fans can now enjoy the earlier drama among the Dutton family on CBS, but they will have to wait a little longer than expected for the second half of season five. The departure of Kevin Costner from the series, due to his focus on an upcoming movie, Horizon, disappointed co-creator Taylor Sheridan. However, Sheridan assured fans that Costner’s character, John Dutton, would not meet a gruesome fate.

Despite the setback, Sheridan revealed that another spinoff is already in the works, with discussions about Matthew McConaughey potentially starring in it. The expansive Yellowstone universe also includes prequel series titled 1883 and 1923, which follow earlier generations of the Dutton family, exclusively available on Paramount+. Furthermore, a spin-off called 6666, set on the famous Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, is also currently in development.
