The relentless pressure faced by most celebrities in managing their lives is beyond imagination.
It’s inevitable for artists to receive criticism about their work, and occasionally, it may even be acceptable. Naturally, not every creation by an artist is universally adored, just as entertainers may have off-nights once in a while.
While fans expressing their opinions is expected for high-profile individuals, in this day and age, one would hope that personal attacks and online trolling would be beneath us all.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the internet has become a powerful megaphone with millions of voices. Celebrities not only risk encountering disgruntled fans in their everyday lives, but they also have to endure a barrage of comments whenever they choose to share glimpses of their lives on social media.
Over the weekend, Halle Berry experienced the harshness of the internet when she shared a stunning nude photo of herself. Needless to say, Berry caused a stir on Saturday by posting a picture of her standing on a balcony, enjoying a glass of wine, and wearing nothing at all.
The 56-year-old Academy Award-winning actress accompanied the photo with the caption: “I do what I wanna do.”
While many responses in the comments section were positive and supportive, as people cheered Berry on, there were, of course, negative remarks as well.
One person particularly criticized Berry’s decision to pose nude, writing: “Imagine being in your 50s, still posting nudes for attention in menopause when you should be chilling with the grandkids. Aging with dignity is no longer a thing.”
Considering Berry’s extensive experience as an A-list celebrity, one might expect her to brush off such naysayers and pay no attention to the disregard they deserve.
However, Berry didn’t ignore the comment. Instead, the Hollywood star responded in a way that her followers found absolutely hilarious.
She retweeted the post with her own comment: “Did you guys know the heart of a shrimp is located in its head?”
One Twitter user shared, “As someone roughly your age… keep living your best life and sharing whatever the heck you want when you want.”
Another user wrote, “Imagine getting mad because a beautiful woman is proud of her body, couldn’t be me.”
Actress Audra McDonald commented, “You won the internet today with this clap back.”
Indeed, Berry’s response to the troll received much more love than the initial negative comment.
Personally, I appreciate it when narrow-minded bullies are put in their place.
