Mariska Hargitay is embracing the arrival of summer with a delightful vacation in Italy! The renowned star of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, aged 59, took to Instagram to share glimpses of her getaway, featuring stunning cliffs, glistening azure waters, and, of course, her husband, Peter Hermann, with whom she has been happily married for nearly 19 years.
The couple, with Hermann aged 55, indulged in a memorable yacht excursion along the enchanting Amalfi Coast, a beloved destination among celebrities. They captured a few affectionate selfies, radiating love and affection. Accompanying the post captioned “Amore,” the actress included images of their sweet kiss shared on the open sea.
Keeping her extensive following of almost 3 million Instagram users updated, the founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation documented her adventures. She engaged in thrilling jet skiing escapades in the Mediterranean and savored the breathtaking coastline view while relaxing in a hot tub on the boat’s deck. On this occasion, she wore a simple baseball cap emblazoned with the word “ciao.”
Hargitay and Hermann crossed paths when she portrayed Detective Olivia Benson on the popular NBC series, Law and Order. Although her role began in 1999, their encounter occurred during the third season when Hermann made a guest appearance as defense attorney Trevor Langan. The couple embarked on a romantic journey shortly thereafter.
After two years of dating, they exchanged vows and will soon celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary on August 28. In a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, the star of Younger fondly recalled Hargitay’s fortieth birthday, which served as the moment he realized he wanted to spend his life with her.
“At that time, I witnessed Mariska surrounded by all the people she loved. It was like seeing her in her element, where she truly belonged. There was an abundance of people and an abundance of love, and I thought, ‘I want to be a part of that.’ It was something along those lines!”
The actor continued, “I saw her flourishing when she was in the environment she was meant to thrive in. I wanted to be a part of that environment. Something like that!” Two years after their wedding in Santa Barbara, the couple joyously welcomed their first son, August Miklos Friedrich, who is now 16. In 2011, they expanded their family by adopting daughter Amaya Josephine, now 12, and son Andrew Nicolas, now 11. When they are not enjoying a spectacular European getaway, the family of five splits their time between New York City and Los Angeles.
