Mariska Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, graced the red carpet on Monday, accompanied by their three children, in a rare public appearance together.
The occasion was the 2023 Stuttering Association for the Young Benefit Gala held in New York City. At the event, the couple, proud parents of August, aged 16, Amaya, aged 12, and Andrew, aged 11, were honored and inducted into SAY’s Hall of Fame for their extensive involvement with the organization.
Hargitay shared with People magazine how her family’s connection with SAY began. She met SAY’s founder, Taro Alexander, through their shared connections in the acting community. Taro introduced her to the organization, and the couple attended a benefit, where they were deeply moved by SAY’s incredible work and the warmth of its loving community.
The actress and mother of three expressed how the experience had a profound impact on her heart, as if the very cells of her heart were changing, touched by the beauty of what SAY was accomplishing.
Later, when Hargitay’s oldest son faced challenges with stuttering, she knew precisely where to seek support and guidance – within the caring community of SAY.
Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann became parents to August in 2006, and their family grew with the addition of adopted siblings Amaya and Andrew in 2011.
It’s noteworthy that the entire family rarely makes public appearances together, making this gala outing a special occasion. However, in December 2022, Hargitay shared a photo of the family enjoying a day at Disney World, remarking on how grown-up her children had become, especially August, who had transformed into a handsome young man since she first welcomed him into the world.
