Tennis champion Naomi Osaka is set to become a mother to a baby girl! The 25-year-old athlete recently shared delightful photos from her princess-themed baby shower, revealing that she and her boyfriend, Cordae, who is also 25, are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their daughter.
In an Instagram post, Osaka posed amidst an array of pink and purple balloons, exuding her signature casual style. The accompanying caption read, “☺️🤍💜.” The backdrop emphasized the joyful news, proclaiming, “A little princess is on the way!”
During an interview with PEOPLE in February, Osaka disclosed that she already knew the baby’s gender, while Cordae was still unaware. “I’ve been preparing, but he doesn’t know the gender yet, only I know,” Osaka shared. “So it’s not like I can build out the room or anything.”
Reflecting on her forthcoming journey into motherhood, Osaka expressed a laid-back approach. “So I don’t know, [I’m] just kind of winging it. That’s kind of the key motto in my life a little.”
Earlier this year, Osaka spoke with PEOPLE about her decision to prioritize her mental health and withdraw from the 2021 French Open. She expressed gratitude for the positive impact her openness had on others facing similar struggles. “It’s always really heartwarming when people tell me that I have helped them with their own struggles,” Osaka shared. “At the time, I was doing it for myself, but I realized that my decision to help myself was also helping many others.”
As she embarks on this new chapter of motherhood, Osaka, like any parent, desires a better world for her child to flourish in. She recognizes that the journey begins with personal growth and becoming the best version of herself. “I would say for me, I just want to be the best version of myself. Obviously, I’ve never been a mother before, so I’m taking it day-by-day and just trying to be someone that my son or daughter will be proud of,” she expressed.
