Tina Turner’s relationship with her children was reportedly strained, particularly after her relocation to Switzerland, which resulted in limited contact. Recent reports have emerged regarding her son’s arrest prior to her passing, adding to the already heartbreaking situation.
Tina Turner’s son, Ike Turner Jr., aged 64, was apprehended in Alvin, Texas on May 6 on charges of crack cocaine possession and evidence tampering. Tragically, this occurred only 18 days before his mother’s demise at the age of 83 in Küsnacht, Switzerland.
According to police reports, Turner Jr. was pulled over at 12:09 a.m. due to an equipment failure, commonly used when a vehicle’s headlights or taillights are malfunctioning. He was driving a white 2013 Ford Fusion. During the arrest, law enforcement discovered 1.7 grams of crack cocaine and less than a gram of methamphetamine in Turner Jr.’s possession. In an attempt to avoid detection, Turner allegedly tried to ingest the drugs.
Jessica Salinas-Esquivel, a passenger in the vehicle, is also facing charges of controlled substance possession. Turner Jr. has been held at Brazoria County Jail for the past month and has not been able to secure his release, as his bail has been set at $70,000.
It is worth noting that Ike Turner Sr., Turner Jr.’s father and namesake, also struggled with substance abuse throughout his life. Tina Turner was married to Ike Turner Sr. from 1962 to 1978, during which time he faced multiple arrests for substance-related offenses. He served time in prison for various possession charges and passed away in December 2007 at the age of 76 due to a cocaine overdose.
Tina Turner, after battling numerous health issues, including a kidney transplant in April 2017, succumbed on May 24. Her husband, Erwin Bach, had selflessly donated the kidney to her, further illustrating their deep bond.
